Enemies

October 28th, 2010

Walker came home last week and said:

"My pal Wade and I have enemies!"

"Oh really?" I said. Thinking that they were playing a game at recess.

"Yeah... all the girls chase us at recess!" "So we decided they're our enemies!"

Fast forwarding to yesterday he came home with this... on another newish pair of pants!

He had to use his "turbo speed" to out run those girls... aka "the enemies", resulting in tripping and stumbling on the blacktop. Knee was okay. Mama's pocketbook is thinking we may have to do the 70's patches!

Zoo Boo...

October 27th, 2010

This weekend was also our annual trip to the Zoo Boo. Where the kiddos get to where their costumes, play games, get candy and visit the zoo. Walker was very excited to see a BIG Darth Vadar right at the entrance...

We sipped on cider while the kiddos hunted for candy in the leaf pile...

They made bats... well actually Ainsley made a bat while Walker had the high school girl do his...

I found an unbelievable leaf pile... the colors were exactly like the picture... soft pastel... I've never seen such pastel leaves in the traditional fall colors of yellow, orange and red.

We hit the haunted tree house where the kiddos gave us a, "Yeah you can come in with us if YOU want." All you had to do was go around the tree and it was pretty scary... ended up dragging Walker through it... since he was gripping me... I ended up screaming since a ghost came up behind me and grabbed me around the neck. I think Daddy and Ainsley fared okay but she was a bit clingy too.

We got up close and personal with this big guy... this picture cracks me up... he's got his eyes closed... either smiling for the camera or hoping I'll be gone when he opens his eyes.

The poor bear... if this doesn't say get me a new habitat (which they are working on)..I don't know what does...

We had a bite to eat of lunch before heading out... when it comes to eating Walker is the slowest... often savoring 1 chip at a time... or just nibbling. Which normally isn't a problem unless we are on the way to something. I love that he's a people watcher though... just like me!

We saw this Falcon on the way out and learned about her story... she is new to the zoo... she arrived because she was found in California starving... she has an unattached retina in one eye making her blind in that eye. Beautiful bird.

One more cute one of kiddos... and the leaves... was so glad to finally see some color change of the leaves.

Carving Pumpkins...

October 26th, 2010

We carved pumpkins over the weekend. The kiddos decided first to draw how they wanted their pumpkin to look when it was carved.

Next up was Daddy's turn to do the actual carving and make the kiddos laugh when the pumpkins brains came out...

Then came the time to actually clean it out. The conversation went something like this...

Walker: "I don't want to put my hand in... you do it first Ainsley."

Ainsley: "I'll do it I don't care!"

Walker: "No I want to do it first!"

So in the hand when and out came the pumpkin goo... with lots of , "Eww... slimy... it's too slippery... I need help!"

Up next was Ainsley's turn and her drawing of how she wanted it to look...

She dug right in and cleaned out her entire pumpkin all by herself!

She ended up deciding to change her face... best idea ever to use dry erase markers!

Here they are all lit up... such a boy pumpkin... Walker wanted to make sure he had blood coming out of the mountain shaped teeth..

And Ainsley's girl pumpkin complete with eyelashes...

I decided to roast the pumpkin seeds this year... haven't done this for ages... they turned out pretty good!

Halloween Festivities...

October 25th, 2010

Each year the Halloween festivities start at the kiddos school halloween carnival. It's also the only time I really get them to stand still for Halloween pictures. This year (no surprise) Walker wanted to be Darth Vadar... love that besides Halloween he'll play and play with this costume.

Ainsley wasn't sure what she wanted to do for Halloween but she knew she wanted hairspray with sparkles. So after much debate over Wonder Woman, a senorita dancer or a bee costume... the bee won out.

Love the picture of the two of them... especially the "acting" one... it's so them... "you do this while I do that!"

At the carnival we had yummy Texas Roadhouse food...

Kiddos played games in each classroom... hardly do I get a shot without them seeing/hearing me take pictures... I love the excitement and wonder in their faces.

Was a good time... and a beautiful night to walk home...

Soaked

October 20th, 2010

Today was definitely a blog story day.

Got a call shortly after returning home from school (the 2nd time... Ainsley forgot her homework and book) and Walker was getting a drink outside as the bell rang and the top blew off and as Walker says, "It turned into Old Faithful!" He was soaked from head to toe. Ran over to school and got him home to change... everything... poor kiddo! I was going to take a picture but it was traumatic enough for him and he just needed hugs from his Mama.

Got him completely changed and sent back to school with a smile on his face.

She/He

October 19th, 2010

Ainsley did not win the student council spot and was pretty much devastated, "But I really wanted to win!" she said, "Because I didn't win last year either!" It took most of the weekend to "get over it" but she's going to try again next year! (insert proud parent smile!)

She's become obsessed with reading lately...

Partly because she enjoys it, partly because she likes to challenge herself and see how far she can get over her reading goal (last 6 weeks she was at 210%) and mostly because she just learned there's a prize at the end of school for the person with the highest level above their reading level. She also gets to turn her chore time at home into books in the book orders... another big plus.

Little Bug has just figured out how to really snap (you know one that makes a noise)...and is pretty darn fascinated with his new skill that he's worked on for months! Ainsley had been trying to teach him which was pretty funny to watch.

He has also become obsessed with Football! In fact he just got his first "real football." He had a Nerf football that he's been hauling back and forth to school... it became so used that the "foam guts" started to either come off or be picked off. I told him we'd get him a new football to replace it and he says, "Well I want to come and pick it out, because it HAS to be brown with white on top!"

Once Upon A Time...

October 18th, 2010

Once upon a time... Daddy was the only one who could make a huge track...

Now Little Bug can make a huge track all by himself...(complete with big grin!)

Today

October 14th, 2010

Today she is running for student council..

She has to give a speech to her class! Here is her speech that she wrote:

She was very excited this morning... so very proud of her to have that much self confidence to do a speech!! I let her wear her small hang down earrings to school and she wore her "lucky" outfit. I think there are 10 students in her class also wanting the title of Mrs. Kelley's 3rd grade student council rep. The class will then vote today!

Pumpkin Pie...

October 13th, 2010

Worth recording... the humongous pumpkin pie from Costco is delish!!! Surprisingly crust and filling tastes just like homemade... maybe even better!

Yes, we were suckers for the Saturday sample... was a bonus that there was a coupon for it! Making it only $4.99!

Seriously best pumpkin pie I've had in a while... could be very addicting to pumpkin pie eaters like us!

Typing

October 12th, 2010

He's already typing and knows the home row keys!

Back in the day... it was highschool typing on the typewriter... with the Capital High Football coach yelling and possibly throwing objects at you when you looked down at your hands. I was so terrified and nervous in the class that I tried to be so careful when typing which just resulted in mistakes after mistakes... resulting in a wonderful grade of D!!!

Walker loves to practice on the laptop. He talks while he types, "aaa sss ddd fff spacebar spacebar spacebar." Then he does the other hand. Cute to watch and hear.
