Geometry

November 18th, 2010

Ainsley started Geometry this week... eeks!

My first exposure to Geometry was sophomore year... and poor Mrs. Mazurick did her best with me but I just didn't get it... still don't... my brain can't function like that. Usually I defer all those questions to Math extraordinaire Daddy but since he has been busy with"the project" I figured I could figure it out.

With paper and pencil in hand I headed up to ask him about a couple questions and he too was stumped... I hate how they just send home just the homework paper there is no book. They expect the kiddos to remember the lesson... and us parents to help/know it... well if I can read about it in a book and look at examples... I'm good but when it's out of the blue, "Mommy what is an isosceles triangle or how do you label this parallelogram?"  it's like foreign language... Thank goodness for Google!

I'll find out what grade we get when I correct the papers in the classroom tomorrow!

Demo..

November 17th, 2010

Demo day on Saturday went really well... love demo day!

It all started like this...

I got the first swing at that awful soap dish that is forever bonking Walker's head in the bath. Then Stewart got to work..

Tile came out easily in big chunks..

Busting out the cast iron tub took some time and 1 band-aid later it was out and we were cleaned up and ready for plumbing.

Plumbing started Sunday..

And this was the scene all of Sunday and again Monday night... plumbing was just one thing after another but after a hallelujah Tuesday night (a different faucet, a redo of plumbing, a trip to Lowes and 2 large fountain pops later it was done and in!)

Compound Words...

November 16th, 2010

Currently the newest thing around the house is compound words... just recently introduced to our first grader. Any word Walker hears or reads he will tell you if it is a compound word and then do the gestures.

Take apart the word... one word in one hand... the other word in the other and then you join them together to say the word.

So example... "every" in one hand... "body" in the other... together they make "everybody"!

Projects

November 13th, 2010

On the verge of starting a few major house projects...

Goal is to have all 3 1/2 bathrooms remodeled by Christmas! Huge undertaking but having a goal in mind always works well for us! Starting the kiddos bathroom this weekend... none too soon either since having 1 sink in their bathroom is becoming quite stressful with all the fighting those two have in the mornings and bedtimes. I never knew how far toothpaste could travel and how difficult it is to get off once it's dried or should I say cemented on.

Baking Buddy...

November 10th, 2010

I love having a baking buddy...

Most the time it is Walker who wants to help me or will frequently ask if we can make something together. Last night we made biscuits and he did all the measuring, the cutting in of the shortening (with a bit of help) and then learned to knead the dough and finally he cut out the biscuits. Fun times!

Here's our finished work...

We usually consume them with rhubarb jam for 3 of us (Walker always has apricot jam.) But instead of depleting our stash we opted for just honey and butter which is a close second.

Since I'm on the subject of Little Bug... he just moved up in his reading level... he's now reading at a 2.9 level, almost 3rd grade reading level... so proud!

Hard To Believe...

November 8th, 2010

Hard to believe that we were at 70 degrees this weekend... with the kiddos chasing me in the yard while throwing leaves.

I was taking pictures of the fall colors one minute...

And the snow covered the next...

Looks like winter is arriving.

Fall

November 6th, 2010

The front yard has decided it's finally time for Fall... so happy seeing all the beautiful colors.

Kiddos have been so ready for a leaf pile and leaf fight. Will have our work cut out for us this weekend.

Red Ribbon Week...

November 3rd, 2010

Last week at school was also Red Ribbon Week.

On Monday it was dress up as who you want to be when you grow up.

Ainsley as a fashion designer and Walker as a Ranger in Glacier National Park.

Tuesday was "Crazy Hair" day. Ainsley wanted an upside down braid...

And Walker who doesn't like his hair changed or messed with what so ever wanted spiky hair...

Wednesday I missed getting a picture. It was crazy sock day. Walker didn't want to wear anything but the normal white socks and Ainsley wore pink/gray striped socks over her pants and then had me pin on 4 other crazy colors on them. Quite original.

Thursday was spirit day... aka red shirts and then the Halloween party on Friday finished up the week.

Halloween Weekend...

November 1st, 2010

It was a busy Halloween weekend...

Friday the Kiddos had a Halloween party at school...

I helped out in Walker's classroom this year but got a picture of Ainsley in the school parade of costumes...

Later that night we had a trunk or treat at the LDS church up the street...(Walker is using the force on me)

They made a HAUL...

Saturday morning it was another Trunk or Treat at the park... which was filled with pumpkins, cookies and homemade root beer. Kids got to pick a pumpkin to take home..

We caught up with Alta and Kiddos...

and friends that dressed up so out of character that we had to get pictures...

Later that day Little Bug was not feeling well... requesting only soup crackers and ramen noodles...

We handed out candy Saturday night... Ainsley wanted to hand out the candy until we actually had people at the door then she was calling, "Mommy come help me!" She got too embarrassed I guess.

Sunday morning little Bug was feeling better... still had a yucky cough but at least no fever. Made Mummy Pops during the day to past the time until it was dark... learned to use candy melts and Not white chocolate chips... they were much harder to melt to the right consistency.

With the Trogdens with us... we did the 3rd time of Trick or treating on the actual day! Kiddos had tons of candy so we just went down our street and up the next, before heading home to pass out our candy... for the 2nd time! Will be glad next year NOT to have Halloween on Sunday.

Happy Halloween...
